Bike Storage Container

Lion Containers received a request from a company in the transport industry to modify a shipping container into a bike storage container. Their employees, who biked to work, required a secure storage space, so the company needed a secure storage solution to be set up in the parking area.

The original plan was to use a 20ft shipping container for the project. However, after evaluating the company’s needs and the available parking space, the Lion team determined that a 20ft shipping container would be too large. To ensure a better fit, the conversions team cut the container down to 16ft.

Specifications

The Lion team fitted a manual roller shutter onto the bike storage container to keep the bikes secure from theft and damage. Our modifications team discussed with the client the potential for an electric roller shutter, however, the customer expressed concerns about potential power outages and how they would override it in case of issues. With that in mind, our team designed a manual roller shutter with internal housing, to give the bike storage container a clean and professional look.

We also installed a floor-mounted bike rack inside the converted container, securely bolting it to the floor. We presented the customer with alternative options, including a wall-mounted rack, but they preferred the floor-mounted design. The customer specifically requested that we install the bike racks on both shorter sides of the container (8ft on each end) rather than along its length. This layout allows easy access, enabling bikers to remove or park their bikes without navigating around others. We tested the bike rack with a bike to ensure proper positioning and confirm that it did not hit the wall.

Finally, the team modified the exterior of the bike storage container to match the client’s specifications by spraying it in the customer’s chosen color: RAL 6007 Green.

Lion completed and delivered this project in under three weeks. The bike storage container perfectly served its purpose upon delivery, leaving the client highly satisfied with the build.
