Crowds Flock To See The Majestic Maersk
10/14/2013
Last week the world’s largest container ship, the Majestic Maersk, made it’s maiden visit to port. The 399-metre long Majestic Maersk spent a day berthed at the Port of Felixstowe as it unloaded cargo from the Far East from the 18,270 containers stacked in its holds and on its decks. It is one of Maersk Lines new Triple-E series of vessels, which can carry 2,500 more boxes than the previous largest ships afloat. The ultra-large container vessel is only able to dock at a handful of the world’s ports.
The Majestic Maersk was launched in July and later named by Crown Princess Mary of Denmark on a special visit to Copenhagen. Her decks were thrown open to the public and 50,000 people climbed aboard during the week-long stay with more than 200,000 coming to the quayside to see her.
I wonder how many of our containers will be arriving on her in the coming year…
