Shipping containers are yet again being used to help Britain’s homeless, this time it’s the young homeless people in East London who will benefit. These homes are part of plans to help them save up for more permanent housing. The containers, which will cost £20,000 have a bed, television, small kitchen, shower and toilet. Residents will pay 30% of the minimum wage to stay here, which amounts to around £75.
Tim Pain, from Forest YMCA, said he hoped the temporary accommodation would act as a “stepping stone” for young people moving towards independent living, while Kino Hines said he would like to live in one as he could not afford to rent in London.
