As 2023 draws to a close, here at Lion we’ve been taking a look back at our top container conversions from the last year. It’s been a brilliant year with an array of shipping container conversion projects heading out of our workshops and out to customers across the UK. With container conversions ranging from domestic home offices all the way up to new town markets, there’s been quite a selection to choose from. Here’s our top 3 for you to take a peek at… they may even inspire you for your own 2024 conversion!
Youth Centre Classroom
This converted shipping container classroom was provided to an organisation who specified that disabled access for their learners was a key priority. As with all of the container classrooms that Lion has converted, maximising natural daylight was also a main focus, as well as ensuring that the box’s aesthetic complimented its natural surroundings.
Two 20ft shipping containers were linked together to produce a 20ft x 16ft unit, whilst patio doors were installed for ease of access. Also included in the design was space for a portable wheelchair ramp, as requested by the client. Installation of electrics included 4 single anti-corrective lights and 8 twin sockets.
This shipping container classroom is sure to provide a productive and welcoming workspace for learners of all abilities.
Radiation Detection Room
Our West Midland’s-based client required radiation detection rooms to guarantee personnel safety in the workplace. Four shipping containers were converted by Lion to serve as ‘dirty sides’ where personnel are tested to ensure they do not carry radiation offsite.
As health and safety were of the utmost importance for this project, the conversion team at Lion worked closely with the client to ensure that all requirements were satisfied. These requirements included the installation of standard electrics, individual distribution boards, a smoke alarm, air conditioning and additional sockets for machinery. The ‘clean’ room in each unit was also fit with single, anti-corrosive lights and motion sensors.
This shipping container radiation detection room left our workshop kitted out to the highest quality, satisfying even the most specific of requirements.
Custom Generator Storage Container
Lion’s Ipswich-based client required a storage container that was far from ordinary. With very specific size requirements, our conversion team worked to ensure that the exact dimensions were achieved at the most competitive rate possible.
Not only were the sizings specific, but the condition of the converted containers were also a priority. It was imperative that the container was built using anti-corrosive materials to ensure the longevity of the container overtime in a highly corrosive environment. The container was sandblasted and followed up with two coats of primer and anti-corrosive paint. The container was also fit with stainless steel vents.
This custom generator storage container headed out to our Ipswich client, suiting all of their sizing and exterior requirements. This project is proof that even storage containers can be upgraded by our conversions team to fully meet our clients’ needs.
A sneak peek at Caerphilly Market
Although this project will technically open to the public in 2024, we couldn’t resist throwing in a sneak peek at the brand new Caerphilly Market that we’ve been working on this year.
The market will consist of 28 converted shipping containers that will serve as eateries and retail spaces. A host of local businesses and traders will welcome new customers at the site in the town centre, as soon as the market launches in early 2024. Be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram for further updates.
